The Lost Book Of Dogma

Video Games

I have all three major consoles and DS right now, so I will try to review as many games as humanly possible. As soon as I play some more GTA: San Andreas. And Metal Gear Solid 3. And Resident Evil 4.

Favorites List
Current favorite games.

Halo (XBOX)
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2)
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2)
Resident Evil 4 (GC)
SOCOM 2 (PS2)
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (XBOX)

Here are what games I consider Game Of The Year and in what categories
Overall- Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
PS2- Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
XBOX- Halo 2
Gamecube- Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Driving- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Third-Person Shooter- Max Payne 2: The Fall Of Max Payne (did it come out in 04? Oh well, it's still great)
First Person Shooter- Halo 2
Best Story- Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Best Traditional Sports game- ESPN NFL 2K5
Best "Extreme" Sports game- THUG 2
Best Director- Hideo Kojima (MGS 3: Snake Eater)
Best Sound Design- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

And here are games that get the Crap Of The Year Award from me
Biggest Dissappointment: Tie, Ghost Recon 2 and Halo 2 (it could have been better, but Halo 2 is a great game) (also, Ghost Recon 2 is horrible on both PS2 and XBOX, and soon, on Gamecube)
Worst Third-Person Shooter- Ghost Recon 2
Worst Idea- The Guy Game
Worst Beat-Em-Up- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus

Buried Treasures
Broke, yet still have the urge to buy a game? Here are some forgotten games that are probably pretty cheap.

Half-Life (PC, PS2) I just recently bought Half-Life for PC, and automatically fell in love with it. It has a great story, decent graphics (considering it's age), and good control. I've had it for a couple of months on PS2, but I never really got into it ( I was sick days after I bought it, and therefore could not take the fast-paced gameplay. After that, I just forgot about it.) The game is great, and surprisingly its age doesn't really affect it.

Spider-Man (PS1)
If you're a fan of the spider-man comics and you haven't picked this up, shame on you. SHAME. This is a great game. It has great production value (for its time), and is just pretty damn fun. Definitely a treasure.

Video Game Reviews

Forza Motorsport (XBOX) 9 out of 10
I'm not a simulation fan, but this game is awesome. Great graphics, gameplay, and controls. Racing games don't get any better than this as far as I'm concerned.

Resident Evil 4 (GameCube) 10 out of 10

Who would have thought that one of the best games of 2005 would come out only days after it started? This game is great. Amazing graphics. Creepy atmosphere. Great Control. It's all here. I love this game, and I didn't really like the other RE game I picked up (RE: Code Veronica X). They have fixed every problem with the RE series and have made probably the best Survival Horror game ever. Also, in my opinion, this now makes the GameCube a must-own.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2) 10 out of 10

I'm just going to write a quick review for this, so here it goes. This game is one of the greatest games ever made. The controls are amazing, it has a great story, and it pulls off things graphically that I never thought the PS2 was capable of. It is BY FAR the best game of 2004. I would suggest to anybody who likes stealth/action or likes the MGS series to at least pick it up.

Halo 2 (XBOX) 8.5 out of 10

Let's get this out of the way, I am a HUGE Halo fan. I have read the books and played Halo 1 more hours than I can count. Also this is a completely OFFLINE review. I do not have broadband, so I obviously don't have XBOX Live. First off, the campaign is kinda weak. It's overall not a great deal of fun. The story is decent, but it's not about the war on Earth against the Covenant (Like the last book left it off to be).I will not include any spoilers, so I cannot say how much it dissapointed in what areas. Even though I am dissappointed, the game is still good. It will hopefully change how we dual weapons in games, and the controls are tight, responsive, and just feel right. The offline multiplayer is probably the best around, and the maps are all detailed and fun to fight in. Overall, the problem is when you finish the game, there is NO incentive to play again, besides of course, the fact that it's Halo.

GTA: San Andreas  (PS2) 9.5 out of 10

Wow. That is the first thing that goes through your mind when you play this. This game is huge. The fact that it only took a couple years to make this game is amazing. Let's start with the story. It starts out pretty good, but unfortunately it flops toward the end. But it still keeps you entertained with some impressive missions and great characters. Overall, it took me 39 hours to complete the main story, but in those 39 hours, I got 100% stamina, muscle, and flying skill. Along with that I maintained 0% fat and tried on and unholy amount of clothing. The best mission to me was the end Robbery mission. The robbery missions are optional, but they are some of the coolest in the game.Unfortunately, after you've completed the story, there isn't much incentive to do more. Overall, this is a great game. I can't even begin on how huge the area is. You have to explore it for yourself.

Tony Hawk's Underground 2 (PS2) 8.5 out of 10

Don't be fooled about my score, this is the most complete Hawk game out there. The main reason for the unusually low score of THUG 2 is that the game is SO short. It is longer than THUG, but, unfortunately, it is still extremely short. Overall, it barely takes 4 or 5 hours for an experienced Hawk veteran (like myself) if that to finish the story mode. I also beat Classic mode in an amazingly short amount of time. The most bothering thing about story mode is that you cannot even choose your team. One of the coolest thing in the game for veterans is seeing classic levels graphically updated and added to the game. Overall, in my opinion, the regular story mode levels are some of the worst Hawk levels yet. No offense, but they're just kinda stupid. Also, they seem extremely small. But, the fact that you can play in the Airport again kinda makes up for it. Overall, the game is pretty good, but personally, THPS 4 is still my fave.

ESPN NFL 2K5 (PS2) 9.5 out of 10

This is the best football game on the market. Yes, that's what I said. I have played Madden 2005 and personally think this is the better game. The graphics are amazing for a football game, the controls are tight, and the franchise mode is deep. If you didn't know, I have a dial-up connection and a Network Adapter for PS2. The only games I play online (before this) are THPS4 and occasionally THUG. This game is great online. Except for one thing, there is virturally no chat or messaging available (except for people you've already played). But the best thing online (besides the amazing leagues) is the fact that there is virtually no lag at all. Overall, it's the best football game ever. Plus it's only 20 bucks.

Star Wars Battlefront (XBOX) 8.5 out of 10

Whoa. There are games based in the Star Wars universe (ex. Knights Of The Old Republic), and there are true Star Wars games. This is the perfect example of the latter. Somewhere in the development process, though, they decided to switch the game from first-person to third-person. Although this does not really effect the game, it would have been cool to have both. The other major problem with this game is that it was obliviously rushed for the Star Wars DVD release. But this game is pretty cool. There are many redeeming things about it. The places look very cool. There are many different vehicles to fly around. But overall, it could have been better. All Star Wars fans should pick this up ( though I would suggest waiting until it goes down in price). This is a cool game, but if you REALLY want a good Star Wars game, pick up Knights of the Old Republic. Overall, a cool game, but they should've taken their time.

Prince of Persia (XBOX)  10 out of 10

I am a huge video game fan. But even though I love video games, they sometimes get a little unimaginative. The stories of games continue to, at the same time, get better and worse. But then something comes along and renews my faith. This is that game. It starts out with a bang, and ends with a bang. This game is so frickin amazing. I don't want to ruin the story, so I won't talk about it ( but just so you know it is amazing storytelling). The controls are solid, the voicework is awesome, the graphics are amazing, just buy it. There are only 2 problems with the game. First of all, I just started to beat it again, and I noticed that the Farah character says things at the worst time. She is also semi-retarded. The other problem is the camera. At random times it will annoy the hell out of you. But even with these flaws, everyone out there who considers themself a gamer should pick this up. Plus, since noone bought it, it's only about $20.

Video Game News

Just rented Gran Turismo 4. Not too surprising or awe-inspiring. The graphics are good, but similar to GT3. XBOX owners have had these quality graphics for quite a while. Plus, without damage on the cars, it makes it pretty similar to an arcade game in points. Overall, it just doesn't seem near as good as Microsoft's upcoming Forza Motorsport (XBOX).

Got a demo of Unreal Championship 2 for XBOX. It's really good. The melee weapons are a blast, and this one may blast Halo 2 out of the water on multiplayer. At least this one has bots. This is pretty good. Kinda sketchy shooting in first person, but still REALLY fun.

Finally got my hands on a demo of SC: Chaos Theory. They really pulled it off. Ragdoll physics are a blast, and the controls got the upgrades they needed. Overall, it's still the same Splinter Cell, but that's pretty much a good thing. Full review eventually.

I thought Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory was gonna come out Feb., but it looks like it has a late March release date now.

Just rented Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath for the XBOX. I wasn't really looking forward to playing it, but it really is good. Overall, it has solid and cool new first person gameplay and well done third person platformer gameplay. Overall, it blends the two types of gameplay fluidly, is funny, and is just overall good.

Can't find that copy of The Guy Game you've been lookin for? Well, the developers have been slapped with a lawsuit from one of the girls in the game, who claims she was only 17 and was a minor when she was recorded for the game. From what I've heard they've pulled it off store shelves for now.

EA has finally gotten tired of competing with other developers at who is the best at NFL games. So, EA went out and bought rights to the NFL for the next five years. That makes the wallet-friendly ESPN out of commision as far as football goes. Also, guess 989 Studios's remade NFL game won't be coming out next year either.

Picked up Resident Evil 4. Great game. Genuinely scary in places. COMPLETELY redoes the survival horror genre. Controls are great. This is one of the most impressive original ideas in a LONG time. If you have a Gamecube, now's FINALLY the chance to put it to use.

Resident Evil 4 is coming to Gamecube on 1/11/05. The game seems to have corrected every problem with the RE series, and I am looking forward to picking it up.

Just picked up the new OXM (Official Xbox Magazine) and got 2 quality demos. And 1 crappy one and one I can't use, but, the 2 are worth the $10. The demos are Mercenaries and the Punisher. Pick it up.

I will soon reveal what games are my pick for Game Of The Year.

I have bought Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Halo 2 (both on the day they came out) and am soon going to post a review. Who will win? The most anticipated game, uh, ever (Halo 2) or one of the most controversial games ever (uh, GTA).

Halo 2 has been pirated on the internet. It is a French edition of the much-anticipated XBOX game. Microsoft has already assured gamers that the game will not be delayed due to the piracy. Downloaders could be fined up to $100,000.

Just rented Mortal Kombat: Deception for the Playstation 2. I will not post a review, because I did not have enough time to fully play all modes. Although, I did fight on it for a little while and I would suggest everyone out there to buy Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance instead. MK: DA may not be the greatest fighting game of all time, but it is my favorite.

Played the MGS 3 Snake Eater Demo. Whoah. I think I have something to hold me over until Halo 2. maybe. It does have the best graphics on PS2, so pick up the demo

Halo 2 is coming out November 9th. I honestly cannot wait. So.....close.......
Must......play.........Halo..........2..........

The November issue of Official Playstation Magazine will feature a fully playable demo of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Awesome. Also on the disk are Area 51, Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal, and many more good-looking games.

One of the largest parts of Gran Turismo 4 (PS2), has been cut. The much anticipated online racer is now, well, just a kinda still aniticipated racer. Sony cut out the online play to release the game in time for Christmas. How surprising.

Keep in mind, this is only a rumor (that I know of), but there is suspected to be another Spider-Man game. This one, however, is based on the comic book. And, since I was a huge fan of Spider-Man (PS1), I am very much hoping this is true.

Splinter Cell 3: Chaos Theory delayed from Holiday 2004 to March 2005.
